We stayed there over the weekend for our Wedding and it was an absolutely the perfect call. The grounds are stunning, the rooms are spacious and comfortable (almost stole a pillow 🤭), and the owners were a peach!! They allowed us to rent out one of the sun rooms for my bridal party and I to get ready in and the lighting was perfect. I seriously can not wait to stay there again 🥰.

I was looking for a Bed and Breakfast near the MGM Grand for my fiancée’s birthday weekend (I know, what a combination), and stumbled upon this place through Google. I was blown away by the pictures and was also impressed with the amount of positive reviews. So I booked a nights stay in the Rose Room. From the moment we pulled up, I knew that I had made the right decision. The owner has done an unbelievable job restoring the place, and has clearly put her heart and soul into every intricate detail. Check in was smooth and easy, and we got a brief tour. After that, we were on our own. We made our way down into the basement speakeasy (a honor, self serve system) and turned on some music. Every room in the house conjured previous memories of a time forgotten. The room was beautiful, cozy and spacious. Before we left, the owner showed us some before pictures and we got to learn a little about her story. She said something profound regarding her world travels. “It’s all about how a place makes you feel.” The Frederick Stearns House BnB made us FEEL incredible. A place we will not soon forget. My fiancée created unforgettable memories and endless laughs. If you get a chance, book a night or two here. You will never regret choosing this place over a hotel. Learn some local history and support local. We have told our friends and family about it, and also hope to return one day. I wish I could give my experience here more than 5 stars.
Everything about this place is perfect! Spacious rooms, comfortable beds, beautiful bathrooms, very clean! From the time we were greeted at check-in throughout our stay and when we left every interaction I had with the owner and her daughter was kind and professional. All of our requests were met. They were so accommodating to our group and for the bridal party to have space to get ready. The whole place was beautifully renovated. It’s such a gorgeous historical building. I wish I took more pictures of the room. I stayed in the the Rose room Friday night and Dahlia Saturday night. Both were incredibly comfortable and spacious.
My husband and I stayed for a night for a friend’s wedding. Everything was wonderful from the service to the breakfast! Would highly recommend!

“We spent five wonderful nights at the Frederick Stearns Historic Inn. The owner and host, Rachel Mitchell, was largely responsible, first in saving and renovating this 124-year-old mansion and treating us like family. We arrived two hours early to find no electricity in the house or the neighborhood due to a tornado the previous day. Rachel invited us in and offered wine. To our surprise, she agreed to offer a refund if we desired. Fortunately, the electricity returned in a few hours; otherwise, we would have missed a wonderful experience.
The house restoration was superbly done, giving us a realistic sense of early 20th-century luxury living. The walls and doors are of a thickness and weight that we never heard a sound from elsewhere in the house. Each breakfast was deliciously prepared, with Rachel asking for our preferences beforehand. Her recommendations for restaurants were spot-on. We look forward to our return visit.”

This was a wonderful surprise. We were staying in Detroit for a few days and needed someplace close to town. We were looking for something other than a traditional hotel. This property is curated. It exudes quality. It provides a fantastic glimpse of what this beautiful home would have felt like when it was first built over 100 years ago. Hats off to Eric and Rachel for providing something out of the ordinary and preserving this amazing structure.
Our stay at the Frederic Stearns House was fantastic. The rooms are well appointed and true to the photos on the website. The house was decorated beautifully for the holidays. We rented all but one room for the weekend of my daughter’s wedding. It was the perfect place for our extended family to gather together. There was plenty of room for 14 of us to eat breakfast together as well as to socialize in the pub or the living/parlour room. The Frederick Stearns House is a real gem that has been beautifully renovated and will provide a fantastic setting for a family get together or a special night away. There’s plenty of space and good wifi to work if needed. The Frederick Stearns House is an easy and quick drive into the City and is the perfect place to stay while exploring the many area museums, athletic events, college visits, or just a relaxing vacation. The Frederick Stearns House is even better in person than in the photos—certainly a 5 star experience!!
We’ve stayed TWICE! Great location. Walkable to excellent coffee and breakfast, a few miles from downtown, and super close to The Shepard and Little Village. Beds are puffy and so comfortable. The owner has done an impressive renovation and just touring the house is an event in and of itself.

This is a magnificent home that has been very meticulously brought back to perfect condition. The furnishings and art work are beyond incredible. Rachel is a wonderful hostess and very passionate about the restoration and history of the property. It is a step back in time in architecture. It is like staying in a museum. It is very quiet and comfortable. A lot has been done to install modern heating, cooling and plumbing but yet retain the original character and greatness that this turn of the century mansion was built with.

Excellent and special. This former mansion has been lovingly and carefully rescued and restored into a boutique hotel/bed & breakfast. The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was lovely. The building itself is spectacular: think lots of special art, grand stained moldings, and lots of history. The owner and chef were both incredible hospitable and nice. The food at breakfast was extraordinary. I’ll be back and I highly recommend this.
I had my wedding at the Frederick Stearns House on August 8th, 2026. The whole process of wedding planning with Rachel was so wonderful and easy. She is so kind and accommodating. I highly recommend The Frederick Stearns House for any event, especially weddings, or even a weekend getaway in Detroit. The rooms are gorgeous and the whole house is breathtaking. We will be returning annually for our anniversary for sure!
